The world is sort of holding its breath, waiting for something positive to come out of the peace talks taking place this week in Islamabad, Pakistan.
I wanted to help students experience the peace treaty process. But, there is a lot of context and background knowledge I would need to front-end load before doing so. Instead, I created an activity based around a context that students were already familiar with: their school.
The activity challenges students to analyze the situation, choose a side, develop a point-of-view for their side, decide what compromises they were (or were not) willing to make, create a treaty, and then justify the final outcome to their constituents.
You can access the document here.
Please feel free to use it as is, or make any changes you deem necessary.
I hope this helps your students understand the complexities of peace-making and appreciate the hard work that goes into fashioning peace treaties.
